Carbon Monoxide
We work with government, charities and organisations to educate citizen of the dangers of CO by running campaigns and manning the UK CO helpdesk. CoGDEM also sits on standards committees for flue gas analysers and CO alarms for domestic, RV and yacht safety. We ensure that CO detectors sold in the UK meet UK standards.

FAQ
- I think I’m being poisoned, what do I do?
- Turn off combustion appliances, ventilate, get out of the property and visit a GP or A&E if the symptoms are serious, call either the gas emergency services on 0800 111 999, or an engineer to check appliances (or call your landlord or council if it is not your home), get an electronic CO alarm that is independently certified to EN 50291.
- My alarm is bleeping slowly and the green light is flashing, is this telling me there is gas around?
- Probably not, it is probably a low battery warning, call the manufacturer’s helpline to ask them:
- Where do I fit the alarm?
- Read the instructions that come with the alarm, but in a room with a heating appliance, generally mount the alarm high up on a wall, preferably about 12 inches below the ceiling, but not lower than the height of a lightswitch. Do not mount directly above the heating or cooking appliance or where steam or direct heat may affect the unit.
